Progressively reduces hair for smoother skin that lasts.
No more daily shaving, waxing or plucking.
Safe, effective treatment for areas large and small.
If you’re tired of the endless routine of shaving, waxing and plucking, IPL hair reduction offers a smoother, simpler way. Using gentle pulses of light, the treatment targets the pigment within the hair follicle, warming it to reduce its ability to produce new hair over time.
Because hair grows in cycles, only some of your hair is treatable at any one time — so a course of treatments, spaced a few weeks apart, gives the best and longest-lasting results. Over the course, you’ll notice hair growing back finer, sparser and more slowly, until many areas need only the occasional top-up.
IPL works best on darker hair and is less effective on very fair, white, grey or red hair, so a consultation and patch test are always the first step. Our practitioners will look at your skin and hair, talk through your goals and confirm whether IPL is right for you — creating a personalised plan for the areas you’d like to treat.

IPL uses gentle pulses of light that are absorbed by the pigment in the hair. This warms the follicle and reduces its ability to grow new hair over time. Because it targets pigment, it works best on darker hair.
Hair grows in cycles, so a course of treatments is needed to catch as many follicles as possible in their active phase. Most people have a course of several sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and we’ll recommend a personalised plan at your consultation.
IPL provides long-lasting hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal. Most people enjoy a significant, lasting reduction in hair, with occasional top-up sessions to maintain results.
Most people find it very comfortable — often described as a warm, light “flick” against the skin, a little like a gentle elastic band. We use cooling to keep you comfortable, and no anaesthetic is needed.
IPL suits many people, but works best on darker hair and is less effective on very fair, white, grey or red hair. It’s also not suitable on very tanned or deeper skin tones. Your consultation and patch test are there to make sure it’s safe and right for you.
Please shave the area the day before your appointment (but don’t wax, pluck or epilate, as the follicle needs to be intact), and avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan beforehand. We’ll carry out a patch test before your first session and share full guidance ahead of your visit.
None to speak of. It’s normal to have a little redness or bumpiness around the follicles for a few hours, similar to mild sunburn, which soon settles.
Our IPL treatments are carried out at our Exeter clinic, using the advanced, medical-grade UltraLUX PRO system.
