What is Teeth Grinding ?
Teeth grinding and jaw clenching — known medically as bruxism — are far more common than most people realise, and often go unnoticed because they frequently happen during sleep. Many people only discover they grind when a partner mentions it, or when the symptoms start to show up during the day. Understanding what’s happening is the first step to finding relief.
Bruxism is usually linked to stress and tension, though sleep patterns and jaw alignment can play a part, too. Over time, all that repeated clenching and grinding takes its toll — not just on the teeth, but on the muscles and joints of the jaw. Common signs include frequent headaches, aching or tension in the jaw, facial and neck tightness, disturbed sleep, and worn or sensitive teeth. Because the masseter (the main chewing muscle) is being overworked, it can also gradually enlarge, giving the lower face a wider, more square or “over-developed” appearance.
This is where anti-wrinkle treatment can genuinely help. By gently relaxing the masseter muscle, we can ease the intensity of the clenching and grinding, which in turn relieves the tension, headaches and jaw pain, and helps protect the teeth from further wear. As a lovely additional benefit, softening an over-developed masseter can also gently slim and refine the lower face over time, creating a smoother jawline.
During your consultation, we’ll talk through your symptoms, look at what might be contributing, and plan the right, personalised approach — whether that’s easing your discomfort, refining your jawline, or bot
