Every laser and IPL treatment at Helen Hunt Medical Aesthetics begins with a dedicated consultation and a personalised patch test — an essential first step that lets us treat you safely and achieve the best possible results. Our UltraLUX Pro is a versatile, medical-grade platform used across hair removal, skin rejuvenation, pigmentation, redness and more, and the right settings depend entirely on your skin type, your concern and your medical history.
During your consultation, one of our practitioners will talk through what you’d like to achieve, examine the area and review your skin and health history to make sure laser or IPL is right for you. We’ll explain what to expect, roughly how many sessions you might need and the likely results — always honestly, and never with any pressure to go ahead.
We’ll then carry out a small patch test on a discreet area of skin. This shows us how your skin responds and lets us fine-tune the settings for your treatment. For your safety, we allow a short period afterwards before your first full session, so we can be confident the area has reacted well.

Laser and IPL are powerful, medical-grade treatments, and everyone’s skin responds a little differently. A consultation lets us check the treatment is right and safe for you, while the patch test shows us how your skin reacts so we can tailor the settings. It’s an important part of treating you safely and getting the best results.
We apply the laser or IPL to a small, discreet area of skin to see how it responds. Most people describe the sensation as a quick, warm pinch — a little like the flick of an elastic band. It only takes a few moments.
We leave a short gap — usually a minimum of 24–48 hours — so we can be sure your skin has reacted well before your first full session. Your practitioner will confirm the timings with you.
Ideally, avoid sun exposure and fake tan on the area in the couple of weeks beforehand, and come with clean skin, free of makeup or products on the area to be tested. It’s also helpful to bring a list of any medications you take.
That’s absolutely fine — you don’t need to know. Part of the consultation is helping you understand your options and, if it’s right for you, recommending the most suitable treatment for your skin and goals.
Of course — we completely understand wanting an idea of costs before booking.
As many of our treatments are tailored to your individual needs, pricing can vary depending on the area being treated, the product used and the outcome you are hoping to achieve.
You can view our current price guide online, which gives a helpful starting point for many of our treatments. However, for more personalised advice, we would always recommend a consultation so we can discuss your goals and recommend the most suitable options for you.
