What is Rosacea & Redness?

Rosacea is a common, long-term skin condition that mainly affects the face — usually the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. It tends to show up as persistent redness or flushing, sometimes with visible small blood vessels (known as thread veins), and for some people small bumps or spots that can look a little like acne. It’s very common, particularly in fair skin, and for most people it comes and goes in flare-ups rather than staying constant.

Although the exact cause isn’t fully understood, rosacea is linked to how the blood vessels in the skin respond, which is why flushing and redness are such a central part of it. Certain things tend to trigger or worsen a flare — common culprits include heat, sunlight, alcohol, spicy food, temperature changes and stress — and these triggers vary quite a bit from person to person. Part of managing rosacea well is getting to know your own.

While there’s no outright cure, this is very much a condition we can manage and keep comfortable. With the right combination of gentle professional treatments and medical-grade skincare, redness can be calmed, flare-ups reduced, and the skin’s barrier supported so it feels less reactive day to day. The aim is always calmer, more even, more comfortable skin.

And you don’t need a formal diagnosis to come and see us. During your consultation, we’ll look closely at your skin, talk through what might be triggering it, and create a gentle, personalised plan to help your skin look and feel calmer and more settled.

Rosacea & Redness Self-Care Tips

Identify and avoid your personal triggers (common ones include heat, sun, alcohol and spicy food), cleanse gently twice a day with a mild fragrance-free product, always apply a daily SPF, avoid harsh scrubs and very hot water, and patch-test anything new before using it.
