What are Migranes and Facial Tension?
Migraines are far more than “just a headache” — for the people who experience them, they can be genuinely debilitating, affecting work, family life and everyday wellbeing. Alongside the head pain, many people also carry a lot of tension in the muscles of the forehead, temples, jaw and neck, which can both trigger and worsen an attack. If migraines are affecting your quality of life, it’s worth knowing there may be a supportive option to explore.
For some people, anti-wrinkle injections can help to reduce both the frequency and the severity of migraines, as well as easing the facial and muscular tension that so often goes hand in hand with them. They work by gently relaxing the muscles involved, which can calm some of the tension and trigger points that contribute to an attack. Many people who benefit also notice relief from related jaw clenching and facial tightness at the same time.
It’s important to be realistic and honest about this: it isn’t a cure, and it doesn’t suit everyone — migraines are complex and very individual. That’s exactly why it always begins with a thorough, unhurried consultation, where we’ll talk through your history and symptoms, discuss whether the treatment is likely to help you, and make sure it’s appropriate. We’d also always encourage you to continue working with your GP or specialist, as this treatment is designed to complement your wider medical care, not replace it.
If you’d like to explore whether this could help, we’re here to talk it through with kindness and no pressure — and to help you make the decision that’s right for you.
