Microneedling: Why Medical Microneedling Works Harder for Your Skin
Microneedling is one of those treatments you hear about everywhere at the moment and with good reason. It can smooth, firm and brighten the skin, while helping with things like acne scars, pigmentation and early signs of ageing.
But not all microneedling is the same. The difference between standard microneedling and medical microneedling is all about how deep the treatment goes and that’s what makes the results so different.
At Helen Hunt Medical Aesthetics, our practitioners Lucy and Jodie use advanced, medical grade devices to safely work at a deeper level than non medical treatments can.
What Happens During Microneedling?
Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) uses tiny needles to create lots of controlled micro channels in the skin. This gentle process is designed to stimulate your body’s natural healing response.
As your skin repairs, it produces more collagen and elastin, which are the building blocks of firm, healthy skin. Over time, this means smoother texture, a fresher appearance and improvements in things like fine lines or scarring.

Standard Microneedling vs Medical Microneedling
Standard Microneedling
- Usually offered by therapists or using at home rollers
- Uses shorter needles that only work on the surface layer
- Can give a mild glow or surface refresh, but results are limited
Medical Microneedling
- Carried out by medical professionals only
- Uses needles up to 1.5mm with FDA-approved devices like SkinPen and XCellaris
- Reaches the deeper skin layers where collagen and elastin are produced
- Achieves more noticeable, longer lasting changes
This is why medical microneedling is especially effective for:
- Acne scarring
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Stretch marks
- Pigmentation
- Sun damage
- General dullness or lack of firmness
Your Microneedling Options with Us
We offer several microneedling options, depending on your skin goals and tailored to you:
Medical Microneedling (Single Treatment or Course of 3)
A straightforward but effective option if you want to boost overall skin health. A course of three treatments helps collagen build over time for a gradual, natural improvement.
Medical Microneedling with Peel Package (Single or Course of 3)
Combines microneedling with skin peels to tackle both the surface and deeper layers of the skin. A great choice for anyone wanting a brighter complexion alongside collagen stimulation.

PRP with Medical Microneedling + HA Serum (Single or Course of 3)
Pairs microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and hyaluronic acid boosters.
PRP uses growth factors from your own blood to support repair and regeneration, while HA serum adds hydration and plumpness. Ideal if you’re looking for stronger results for scarring, fine lines, or skin that feels tired and dehydrated.

Medical Microneedling Body – Additional Area With Face Treatment
This option extends microneedling beyond the face to include areas such as the chest, stomach, or stretch marks on the body carried out alongside a facial microneedling treatment. Using our FDA-approved SkinPen and XCellaris devices, it helps improve texture, firmness, and scarring in areas where the skin often shows damage more visibly.
